Actress Justene Alpert terminated her pregnancy in December after receiving a medical diagnosis.
In an Instagram post she shared on Monday, June 22, Alpert, who has acting credits in 9-1-1 and How I Met Your Mother, says that doctors recommended she terminate her pregnancy due to a “rare genetic disease" diagnosis.
Alpert, 36, who was pregnant with a baby boy, said that receiving the news was a “nightmare.” At the time, she was going into her second trimester, and she and her husband, Mason Trueblood, 35, had just begun telling their family and friends they were expecting.
“No one prepares you for this,” she wrote. “No one talks about this. No one briefs you on this when you are trying for a family.”
Alpert said a specialist warned her that she'd be "high risk" if she carried the pregnancy to term. On Dec. 29, Alpert wrote, she “had to say ‘goodbye' to our son.”
“We didn't want to have to make this decision,” she continued. “No mom or dad should ever have to be put in this place. The shame and guilt is unfair. Having to do this is something that is rarely spoken of and seems to not have the same kind of empathy as other situations. It's the worst pain and many suffer silently out of fear of being judged or simply misunderstood.”
At the end of her post, Alpert explained why she felt compelled to share her personal story with her thousands of followers online.

“I'm sharing this for the woman who may be in the situation I was in not long ago," she wrote. "The one who just had her heart shattered. The one who is frantically looking for a reason why. For a result. For a fix. For an explanation. For a friend. I'm sharing to let her know one simple thing that I hope can offer her so much comfort… ‘you are not alone.' ”
Alpert's post included footage of them telling their loved ones about the pregnancy, including one video where a sonogram photo is shown inside of a Christmas ornament. It ends with a photo of her and Trueblood holding a butterfly.
Alpert concluded her post with a message for her and Trueblood's son.
“To our baby boy, Mads Mason Trueblood, thank you for making me a mom,” she wrote. “You are the one who gave me the backbone when I was doubting if I was ready to be a mom or not. Boy oh boy, kiddo, I was ready for you. I was ready to bling out a jersey with your number on it, to teach you how to play rough when your dad would walk away after his safety speech, to have a tiny protector, to give so many hugs and kisses to. I was ready to be yours.”

"Your dad and I think of you every day and I look forward to wrapping my arms around that sweet beautiful boy with the most perfect profile," Alpert wrote. "Until then, I know Finley will be glued to your side. I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever.”
