Anderson .Paak stars in a new Visa ad, promoting secure bill payments with a funky, soulful jingle he composed and performs

He tells PEOPLE creating music for ads is fast-paced but rewarding, and enjoyed the creative freedom Visa gave him

.Paak recently made the TIME100 Most Influential People list and tells PEOPLE about attending the gala

Anderson .Paak just dropped a new song and it features some critical financial advice — seriously.

The singer stars in an ad for Visa called Pro Move, in which he rolls through a neighborhood with his drum set, stopping people from putting their bank information at risk while showing off his usual soulful sound.

As part of the commercial, .Paak, 40, composed a special jingle. He sings about avoiding credit card fraud by paying bills through Visa's built-in protections, instead of directly via a bank account.

"It's a joy, but it's also a lot of work," .Paak tells PEOPLE about the songwriting and creative process. "With ads, it's very quick. You don't have a lot of time. But it was a lot of fun, and I had a lot of fun making it. I'm glad it was funk-inspired because that's kind of my bag."

The singer describes the new jingle as "funky" and "soulful," adding that Visa allowed him to take creative liberties.

"Visa's been just such a pleasure to work with," he tells PEOPLE. "They gave me a lot of freedom to do what I want. The whole team is just super excited. They have great ideas."

.Paak's musical talent actually just landed him on the TIME100 Most Influential People of 2026 list. He attended the gala in New York City on April 23, with date Natasha Lyonne, who penned his blurb for the list. Lyonne described .Paak as "a magician" and "the genuine, multi-hyphenate article."

The star says that making TIME's Most Influential list has long been on his bucket list, and that the gala was a "humbling" experience.

"Usually you're in a room with all musicians or all actors, and this was just a mix of doctors, people that work in healthcare, authors, chefs, activists. I loved it."

He and Bruno Mars form the dynamic pop duo Silk Sonic, and the two will perform their hits "Leave the Door Open" and "Smokin' Out the Window," among others, on Mars' worldwide tour through the rest of the year.

Of working with Mars, .Paak tells PEOPLE, "when we're together, it's something different. When we're together, we are free. I feel like we're tapped into who we really are, and it's nothing like it."

"When we're on together, we're having a lot of fun," he continues, gushing. "And yeah, there's that healthy competition, but it's also a lot of fun and it makes for a great show."
