Chris Hemsworth is opening up about his family’s decision to move out of Los Angeles and back to Australia.
The Thor star, 42, joined Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes for the Monday, Feb. 23 episode of the Smartless podcast. During the conversation, the actor called his family’s move to Australia the “greatest decision” he’s made and spoke about the downsides of living in Hollywood.
“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in L.A. and not enjoying it, you know?” he said about his 11-year-old twin boys Sasha and Tristan, whom he says with his wife Elsa Pataky, 49. The couple also have a 13-year-old daughter India Rose.

“Like nothing was shooting there, we were filming kind of everywhere else,” he says. “And then… you come home and there’s paparazzi and all the sort of, the trappings of living in that sort of space.”
He then called the decision to leave “the greatest decision,” because it offers him a little escape from his professional career.
“You know, when you come back from work, you want to go on a holiday,” he says. “Coming home, for me, feels like a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf."

At the time, Hemsworth had already acted in four Marvel films including Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Earlier this month, Hemsworth and Pataky opened up to PEOPLE about life down under while raising their three children.
"It feels like summer all year round where we live," the Crime 101 star says. “We got a big plot of land, a farm with horses, and our kids surf and fish and ride motorbikes all day… and we pretty much do the same.”
Pataky then expanded on how important spending time together outdoors is to the family.
