A Florida congresswoman says a court hearing examining the CIA’s MKUltra program, a secretive Cold War–era operation long criticized for unethical human experiments, is set to take place in May.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna announced April 29 that the hearing is scheduled for May 13, sharing the date in a post on X. Specific details about what will be examined at the hearing were not immediately clear.

MKUltra was a covert CIA program that operated from 1953 to 1973 and was approved by then–CIA Director Allen Dulles, according to the federal agency. As part of the program, test subjects were unknowingly given LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, a powerful hallucinogen.

A hearing will soon take place on the CIA program MK Ultra, which took place from the 1950s to the 1970s.

The program has been described as a form of “brain warfare” carried out during the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
