DeGeneres shared the cover on Instagram in honor of Pride Month, just two months before the couple's 18th wedding anniversary
Ellen DeGeneres is celebrating Pride Month by looking back on her wedding day.
The former talk show host, 68, tied the knot with Portia de Rossi, 53, on Aug. 16, 2008. The longtime couple's wedding made the cover of the Sept. 1, 2008, issue of PEOPLE. In honor of Pride Month, DeGeneres commemorated their 18th wedding anniversary early by posting the cover on Instagram.
"Being married is the greatest joy of my life. It has been for 18 years," DeGeneres wrote on Wednesday, June 24. "Happy Pride."

In the cover photo, DeGeneres and de Rossi beam with joy as they stand side by side outside. The smiling couple wore white formalwear custom-designed by Zac Posen for their nuptials, which took place at their home in Los Angeles.
The intimate celebration was attended by just 19 guests. The event featured a surprise acoustic performance by Joshua Radin and an all-vegan dinner and vegan red velvet wedding cake.
At the time, de Rossi told PEOPLE that getting married "is not something we've ever taken for granted. That we get to do this, it means a lot." The former actress added, "The love we felt from the people surrounding us, and the love we have for each other, made it the most beautiful and emotional day."

DeGeneres told PEOPLE at the time, "I'm the luckiest girl in the world."

The couple has been in a relationship since December 2004.
In October 2016, DeGeneres exclusively told PEOPLE that the key to their relationship is never taking it for granted.
"Portia and I constantly say to each other, 'We are so lucky.' Sometimes it's lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there," she said. "I've gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I'm not going anywhere. She's not going anywhere. I'm not saying the relationship took a while; I'm saying in my life, it took a while to find this."
When it comes to love, "you get what you give," DeGeneres added at the time. "I think you can't expect someone to treat you a certain way. Whatever it is, if you're getting a lot of negative energy or anger, you have to say, 'Why am I getting this? Am I doing something to create it?' And if the answer is honestly no, then get out of that situation."
