Jesse Plemons is going viral for his heartfelt reaction to seeing fellow nominee (and former Friday Night Lights cast mate) Michael B. Jordan win the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the 2026 Actor Awards.

Jordan, 39, won the award for his performance in the film Sinners, while Plemons, 37, was nominated for his role in Bugonia.

When Jordan's name was announced as the winner, Plemons could be seen offering a standing ovation.

Social media users were quick to comment on footage of the moment, with some noting that the two had worked together in the past.

Another wrote that Plemons was "out here winning Best Teammate while losing the award."

Years before becoming award-nominated film actors, Plemons and Jordan both starred in the series Friday Night Lights, which ran for five seasons and came to an end in 2011.

The series followed high school football players and their coach — starring the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Minka Kelly, Zach Gilford, Aimee Teegarden, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton — in a rural town in Texas as they navigated their lives on and off the field.

The NBC program was inspired by H. G. Bissinger's 1990 novel of the same name, which was also adapted into a 2004 film, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jay Hernandez, Garrett Hedlund and Tim McGraw and Britton, among others.

In the show, Plemons played Landry, a polite and awkward teen mostly uninterested in football, while Jordan played quarterback Vince Howard.

Plemons opened up about his time on Friday Night Lights on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast in 2025, saying it helped inspire his acting career.

"It was definitely huge in terms of that was my first series regular and it was the most I had worked," he said at the time. "But I think what it did more than anything was just kind of inspire me creatively because it was such an unusual scenario for a network television show and we were given so much freedom and encouraged to really make the parts our own."

The series, he said, "made me fall in love with acting in a different way, just being given that kind of… that freedom and that responsibility."

In 2024, it was announced that a Friday Night Lights reboot is in the works at Peacock. The show is expected to feature a new cast.
