Jamie Lee Curtis might be the ultimate scream queen, but that doesn't mean she's a lover of all things horror.
The 67-year-old Oscar winner made her big-screen debut as Laurie Strode in 1978's Halloween. Since then, she's brought the character — referred to as the ultimate final girl, since she just won't die at the hands of Michael Myers — to life in a total of seven movies.
Her most recent outing, allegedly also her final, as Laurie occurred in 2022's Halloween Ends.

While participating in a panel during the SXSW Film & TV Festival on Saturday, March 14, Curtis made a surprising revelation to the moderator, Newsweek's H. Alan Scott: She's not actually a fan of horror movies herself.
Curtis — who attended the annual festival in support of her new thriller, Sender, which she produced and stars in alongside Britt Lower and Rhea Seehorn — told fans in the audience at the JW Marriott in Austin that she understood if they left the room when she shared her opinion on the genre.
"I'm going to be honest with you because I don't really love it," she admitted. "It's fine. I'm fine. No, I'm not joking. I just am not into it."
She continued, explaining, "Doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. It’s not my genre. Do you know what I mean? It's just not my thing. So, for me, I've never ever sort of been in love with the genre."

The Everything Everywhere All At Once actress added that she is more "in love with the independent film making aspect of the genre."

"For instance, Sender, the movie that is premiering tonight, was shot in 17 days. Halloween was shot in 17 days in 1978," she explained. "I’m interested in filmmaking. The fact that it’s a genre that now is getting more understanding and appreciation, of course I’m happy."
Curtis said, "More women are getting appreciation. More people of color are getting appreciation. More genders are being appreciated. Diversity, inclusivity, the words that Donald Trump is trying to like erase from our language, which is an abomination."

According to a synopsis of Sender provided by SXSW, the movie focuses on Julia, a woman who lost her job three weeks prior.
"She also got sober three weeks ago. She’s starting over in a suburban rental, and doing a lot of online shopping to help make the space her own, fast," the synopsis reads. "When packages she didn’t order start showing up at her door — a blender, a corkscrew, her signature shade of lipstick — they feel so unnervingly tied to her past that it starts to feel like someone is watching her."
It continues, "The shopping site Smirk denies responsibility. But increasingly paranoid, Julia tumbles down a rabbit hole to find the identity of her anonymous sender."
